The Most Challenge Is What POM Valve Body Parts CNC Machining Manufacturing?

Both PC base and POM valve body need to be assembled with other parts and electronic devices to make the whole hole circulate. The whole device is suitable for medical use — environmentally protected, rigid, and insulative. Most of the time, we consider injection molding; however, for verified rapid prototypes and low-volume production, vacuum casting and CNC milling are used to save time and cost.
The key machining challenge: the big valve body has multiple runners — including straight and inclined holes. POM material is very easy to deform. The six holes (top and bottom) are not in a straight line, and all holes must connect. The top hole size is 8mm, the bottom hole size is 6mm, and there are 6 inclined holes. We rotate to 5 different positions for machining.

5 sets 5-axis CNC machining centers
20 sets CNC milling & turning machines

Secondary finishing: anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine, PTFE coating, and more

How to Develop and Machine the Complex POM Valve Body Parts?

All medical parts require raw materials compliant with RoHS and FDA certification. Some electronic medical devices require PC or POM material for their components due to weight advantages and material performance superior to metals.

All plastic materials used are PMMA and POM, with a small portion from 6082 aluminum.

    • Used 3D printing to test and verify features before CNC machining.
    • Applied 3D simulation programs to simulate the machining process and reduce risk.
    • Set up a complete after-machining process including polishing and cleaning.
    • Established a rigorous machining process and inspection standard.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What materials are used for POM Valve Body CNC machining?
The primary materials used are POM (Polyoxymethylene) and PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate). A small portion of components may use 6082 aluminum. All plastic materials comply with RoHS and FDA certification requirements, making them suitable for medical device applications.
What is the machining tolerance achievable for POM Valve Body parts?
Our high-precision 5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes can achieve tolerances of ±0.02mm, ensuring tight dimensional accuracy required for medical-grade and industrial valve body components.
Why is CNC machining preferred over injection molding for POM Valve Body parts?
For rapid prototyping and low-volume production, CNC machining and vacuum casting are preferred over injection molding because they save significant time and tooling cost. Injection molding is more cost-effective only for very high-volume production runs.
What are the main machining challenges for complex POM Valve Body parts?
The main challenges include: POM material's tendency to deform during machining, multiple runner channels (straight and inclined holes) that must all interconnect, non-linear hole alignments (top 8mm / bottom 6mm), and 6 inclined holes requiring 5 different rotational setups on the CNC machine to complete accurately.
How do you ensure quality and reduce risk during POM Valve Body development?
We use a multi-step quality assurance process: first verifying designs with 3D printing prototypes, then running 3D simulation programs to identify machining risks, followed by strict machining process controls, and finally post-machining steps including polishing, cleaning, and inspection against defined standards.
What finishing options are available for PMMA and POM machined parts?
We offer a wide range of secondary finishing processes including transparency polishing for PMMA, anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine, PTFE coating, and more — tailored to the specific functional and aesthetic requirements of each project.
