The Most Challenge Is What POM Valve Body Parts CNC Machining Manufacturing?

Both PC base and POM valve body need to be assembled with other parts and electronic devices, making the whole hole circulate. The whole device is suitable for medical applications, offering environmental protection along with rigidity and insulation. Most of the time, we have to consider injection molding; however, when verifying rapid prototypes and low-volume production, we turn to vacuum casting and CNC milling to save time and cost.

⚠️ Key Machining Challenge: The big valve body has multiple runners — including straight and inclined holes. POM material is very easy to deform. The six up-and-down holes are not in a straight line, yet all holes must be connected and functional.

Upper hole size: 8mm | Lower hole size: 6mm | Inclined holes: 6 holes — requiring 5 different rotation positions for machining.

Production Capability for PMMA Connector & POM Valve Body CNC Machining:

    • High-precision 5-axis CNC machining center and CNC lathe (tolerance: ±0.02mm)
    • 5 sets of 5-axis CNC machining centers and 20 sets of CNC milling & turning machines
    • Secondary finishing: anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine, PTFE coating, and more

How to Develop and Machine the Complex POM Valve Body Parts?

All medical parts require raw materials compliant with RoHS and FDA certification. Some electronic medical devices use PC or POM materials due to their superior weight and performance compared to metals.

All plastic materials are sourced from PMMA and POM, with a few components made from 6082 aluminum.

    Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are used in POM Valve Body CNC machining?
The primary materials used are POM (Polyoxymethylene) and PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate). In some cases, 6082 aluminum is also used for specific components. All materials comply with RoHS and FDA certification requirements, making them suitable for medical device applications.
What is the tolerance level achievable for POM Valve Body CNC machining?
Our high-precision 5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes can achieve a tolerance of ±0.02mm, ensuring tight-fitting assemblies and reliable performance for medical and industrial applications.
Why is CNC machining preferred over injection molding for POM Valve Body parts?
For rapid prototyping and low-volume production, CNC machining (along with vacuum casting) is preferred over injection molding because it significantly saves time and cost. Injection molding requires expensive tooling and is more suitable for high-volume production runs.
What are the main machining challenges with POM Valve Body parts?
The main challenges include machining multiple runners (straight and inclined holes) in a large valve body, managing POM's tendency to deform, and ensuring all six non-collinear holes are properly connected. The process requires 5 different rotation positions on a 5-axis CNC machine to complete all inclined holes accurately.
What finishing processes are available after CNC machining of POM and PMMA parts?
We offer a range of secondary finishing processes including polishing, cleaning, anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine treatment, and PTFE coating. PMMA parts can also be finished with optical-grade transparency polishing.
What is the typical lead time and minimum order quantity for POM Valve Body CNC machining?
For this project, the lead time was 12 days for an order of 50 sets. Lead times may vary depending on part complexity, quantity, and finishing requirements. We support both prototype (single piece) and low-volume production orders, offering flexible solutions to meet your project schedule.
