The Most Challenge Is What POM Valve Body Parts CNC Machining Manufacturing?

Both PC base and POM valve body need to be assembled with other parts and electronic devices, making the whole hole circulate. The whole device is suitable for medical devices, under environmental protection, with rigidity and insulative properties. Most of the time, we have to consider injection molding for them; however, when we have verified rapid prototypes and low-volume production, we consider vacuum casting and CNC milling processes to save time and cost.

⚠️ Key Machining Challenge: The big valve body has more runners, including straight and inclined holes. POM material is very easy to deform. The up and down six holes are not in a straight line, and all holes must be connected. Upper hole size: 8mm, lower hole size: 6mm, inclined holes: 6 holes — requiring rotation across 5 different locations for machining.

Production Capability for PMMA Connector Parts & CNC Machined POM Valve Body Parts:

    • Own high-precision 5-axis CNC machining center and CNC lathe (tolerance: ±0.02mm)
    • 5 sets of 5-axis CNC machining centers and 20 sets of CNC milling & turning machines
    • Secondary finishing processes: anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine, PTFE coating, etc.

How to Develop and Machine the Complex POM Valve Body Parts?

All medical parts require raw materials compliant with RoHS and FDA certification. Some electronic medical devices require PC or POM material to machine their components due to parts' weight and material performance being superior to metal.

All plastic materials are from PMMA and POM, with a few components made from 6082 aluminum.

    1. Use 3D printing to test and verify features before the CNC machining process.
    2. Use 3D simulation programs to simulate the machining process and reduce risk.
    3. Set up the after-machining process including polishing and cleaning.
    4. Establish a robust machining process and inspection standard.

    Frequently Asked Questions
Q What materials are used for POM Valve Body CNC machining?
The primary materials used are PMMA (acrylic) and POM (polyoxymethylene/Delrin). In some cases, 6082 aluminum is also used for specific structural components. All plastic materials comply with RoHS and FDA certification requirements, making them suitable for medical device applications.
Q What is the machining tolerance achievable for POM and PMMA parts?
Using our high-precision 5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes, we can achieve a tolerance of ±0.02mm. This level of precision is critical for valve body components that require tight-fitting assemblies and reliable fluid channels.
Q Why is POM material considered challenging to machine for valve body parts?
POM material is prone to deformation during machining, especially for complex valve bodies with multiple runners — including straight and inclined holes. The valve body in this project required 6 inclined holes and 5-axis repositioning across 5 different locations to ensure all channels were properly connected and aligned.
Q How do you ensure quality and accuracy before full CNC machining production?
We use 3D printing to create rapid prototypes for feature verification before committing to CNC machining. Additionally, we run 3D simulation programs to identify potential risks in the machining process. This approach significantly reduces errors and material waste, especially for complex geometries.
Q What finishing options are available for PMMA and POM machined parts?
For PMMA parts, transparency finishing is available to achieve optical clarity. For other materials, we offer secondary finishing processes including anodizing, powder coating, painting, Alodine, and PTFE coating. Post-machining processes such as polishing and precision cleaning are also standard steps in our workflow.
Q What is the typical lead time and minimum order quantity for CNC machined plastic parts?
For this POM Valve Body project involving 50 sets of custom parts, the lead time was 12 days. Lead times may vary depending on part complexity, quantity, and finishing requirements. We support both rapid prototyping and low-volume production, making us flexible for orders of varying sizes across different industries.
