Production Capability For Medical Devices Products CNC Machined Manufacturer
What's The Project Challenge For The Projects?
The main challenge is the product feature is very complex — we need to machine these surfaces one by one, and all parts need to be assembled to serve functional purposes. The materials themselves are very hard and not easy to machine. The single part for special dimensions tolerance is under 0.01mm, requiring all parts to be assembled and fully functional.
Our engineering team must use extended cutting tools, 5-axis and 3+2 axis CNC milling machines to complete them. The parts include multi-angle holes (25 holes distributed in 10 different angles), microchannels (width of only 100 μm), and thin-walled structures (thickness of 0.55 mm). Five holes are undercut, and a series of grooves along the tapered holes require accurate concentricity and tolerance control.
How To Understand and Make The Parts?
First, we conducted a careful design overview to understand the parts and suggest improvements when possible. Then, we applied Positive Material Identification (PMI) to test the composition of the alloys used in the tools and parts.
Fabricating The Prototypes
The first run of prototypes was CNC machined from aluminum in a 5-step process:
- CNC Program the Machines
- Engineering Review and Improve the Codes
- Mount the Workpiece on the Machine and Adjust the Setup
- Monitor Production and All Functions
- Do Adjustment to the Cutting Programs When Necessary
CNC milling process: the mainstream technology achieves complex surface shaping through 5-axis linkage. The curved surface finishing of the actuating support requires a 3mm tool.
Using the mirror EDM process for minor undercut features, as CNC milling cannot access these areas.
Surface polishing is performed to meet the whole product assembly and appearance requirements.
Titanium alloy and stainless steel parts require sonicleaning after machining.
How To Develop and Manufacture CNC Machining Medical Device Parts
Most of the medical device parts' CNC machining includes rapid prototype and volume production. When making 2–4 prototypes, we consider using 5-axis CNC machines and turn-mill combination to manufacture them, followed by after-machining finishing processes.
The overall manufacturing cost is therefore very high. Medical device parts require us to further consider the whole process — from single part machining and surface coating to final assembly — making it a very complex process.
We are dedicated to rapid prototype and low-volume production for medical device parts, providing fast feedback and delivery with high quality.
We manufacture all types of medical device parts via CNC machining — whether you need 1 pc or more than 100 pcs, we can meet your requirement. Send your inquiry to our engineering team to discuss each production detail. We will provide the best support based on cost-effectiveness. Tell us your requirement or expectation, and our team will make it for you. You can start a new project now.
What Surface Finishing Can Be Done After CNC Machining?
After most of the medical device parts are CNC machined, we provide quality finishing options:
For Actuating Device parts, after CNC milling, turning and EDM processes, we carry out polishing and sonicleaning to achieve the required aesthetic and functional standards.
