What's The Project Challenge For The Projects?

The main challenge is the product feature is very complex, we need to machine these surfaces one by one, and all parts need to be assembled and make function purposed. The materials themselves are very hard, and it is not easy to machine. The single part for special dimensions tolerance is under 0.01mm, requiring all parts to be assembled and functional.

Our engineering team have to use extended cutting tools, and 5-axis and 3+2 axis CNC milling machines to complete them. The parts include multi-angle holes (the 25 holes of the bone plate are distributed in 10 different angles), microchannels (with a width of only 100 μm), and thin-walled structures (with a thickness of 0.55 mm). Also, there are five holes that are undercut, and a series of grooves along the tapered holes are accurate holes under concentricity and tolerance control.

    ⚠️ Deformation Control

Thin-walled parts are prone to deformation due to cutting force or clamping force. Therefore, flexible vise clamping and staged processing (coarse/semi-finish/finish machining carried out in stages) are required. For example, in the processing of aluminum alloy medical accessories, process optimization is needed to reduce the deformation rate from 5% to below 0.3%.

    📋 Quality Traceability System

It is necessary to achieve full lifecycle data recording, including material batches, processing parameters, test reports, etc., to meet medical standards such as ISO 13485.

    💰 Cost and Efficiency Balance

Customers often demand competitive prices including material and machining process. Creatingtec offers these suggestions to customers for review. For example, high-precision processing takes a long time (such as the total processing time for bone plates reaching 1 hour and 11 minutes), and efficiency needs to be improved through automation.

How To Understand and Make The Parts?

First, we conducted a careful design overview to understand the parts and suggest improvements when possible. Then, we applied Positive Material Identification (PMI) to test the composition of the alloys used in the tools and parts.

    Fabricating The Prototypes

The first run of prototypes was CNC machined from aluminum in a 5-step process:

    • CNC Program the Machines
    • Engineering Review and Improve the Codes
    • Mount the Workpiece on the Machine and Adjust the Setup
    • Monitor Production and All Functions
    • Do Adjustment to the Cutting Programs When Necessary
    🔧

High Precision CNC Milling & Turning

5-axis linkage for complex surface shaping; curved surface finishing of the actuating support requires a 3mm tool.

    Mirror EDM Process

Used for minor undercut features that CNC milling cannot reach.

    Polishing Process

Surface polishing to meet the whole product assembly and appearance needs.

    🧪

    Surface Finishing

Titanium alloy and stainless steel parts require sonicleaning after machining.

How To Develop and Manufacturing CNC Machining Medical Device Parts

Most of the medical device parts' CNC machining includes rapid prototype and volume production. When we make 2–4 prototypes, we have to consider using 5-axis CNC machines and turn-mill combination to manufacture them, then have after-machining finishing processes.

So the whole manufacturing cost is considerably higher.

Medical device parts need us to further consider the whole process from single part machining, surface coating, and assembly — this is one very complex process.

We are dedicated to rapid prototype and low volume production for medical device parts and provide fast feedback and delivery to you with high quality. We want to make whole industry medical device parts CNC machined for you, providing you customized parts whatever you need — 1 pc or more than 100 pcs, we can meet your requirement.

When you have medical device parts CNC machining inquiries or customized parts, you can send your inquiry to our email address so our engineering team will discuss with you on each production detail. Whatever you ask — 1 pc or more than 100 pcs — we will make the best support to you based on cost-effectiveness. Tell us your requirement or expectation, our team will make it for you. You can start a new project now.

What's The Surface Finishing Can Be Done After CNC Machining?

After most of the medical device parts are CNC machined, we will provide good finishing options:

    ✔ Polishing ✔ Anodizing ✔ Powder Coating ✔ Silk-Screen ✔ Sonicleaning

Actuating Device parts, after CNC milling, turning and EDM process, we will have polishing and sonicleaning process to make it aesthetic.

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q What materials are used for CNC machining medical actuating device parts?
The medical actuating device parts are CNC machined from titanium alloy, PEEK, and 316L stainless steel. These materials are chosen for their biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength, making them ideal for demanding medical device applications.
Q What tolerances can you achieve for medical device CNC machined parts?
Our CNC machining capabilities achieve tolerances as tight as 0.005mm for grinding operations and under 0.01mm for special dimensional features on individual parts. Our 5-axis CNC machining centers and EDM machines ensure all parts meet strict assembly and functional requirements.
Q What surface finishing options are available after CNC machining medical parts?
After CNC machining, we offer a range of surface finishing options including polishing, anodizing, powder coating, silk-screen printing, chemical nickel-plating, and sonicleaning. For titanium alloy and stainless steel medical parts, sonicleaning is a standard post-machining process to ensure cleanliness and aesthetic quality.
