What's The Project Challenge For The Projects?
The main challenge is the product thickness is 60–90mm, and the feature is heteroideus, and all parts need to be assembled and serve their functional purpose.
Our engineering team has to use extended cutting tools and both 5-axis and 3+2 axis CNC milling machines to complete the work. When we rotate at different angles, all thread holes must remain precise and ready for assembly.
How To Understand and Make The Parts?
First, we conducted a careful design overview to understand the parts and suggest improvements when possible. Then, we applied Positive Material Identification (PMI) to test the composition of the alloys used in the tools and parts.
Fabricating The PrototypesThe first run of prototypes was CNC machined from aluminum in a 5-step process:
- CNC Program the Machines
- Engineering Review and Improve the Codes
- Mount the Workpiece on the Machine and Adjust the Setup
- Monitor Production and All Functions
- Adjust the Cutting Programs When Necessary
These practices are typically repeated in any CNC machining project; the cutting programs used are unique for each part. We had to consider things like machine type, part geometry, tool type, and raw material.
The prototypes were sent to our model shop and trusted partners for:
- Polishing — to achieve a reflective and shiny appearance
- Powder Coating — to achieve a more durable protective finish
- Silver Anodizing — to create a beautiful clear finish that enhances resistance to corrosion and wear
How To Develop and Manufacturing CNC Machining Aeroplane Parts
Most aeroplane parts CNC machining includes rapid prototyping and volume production. When we make 2–4 prototypes, the features and material requirements ask us to specify the material supplier — such as 7075, 7475, 2024 and more.
Aeroplane parts require us to consider the whole process: from single part machining, surface coating, to final assembly. This is a very complex process, so our engineering team prepares a detailed DFM (Design for Manufacturability) report before production begins.
We are dedicated to rapid prototyping and low-volume production for aeroplane parts, providing fast feedback and delivery with high quality. These aeroplane features require us to use 5-axis CNC milling to complete them.
When you have aero parts CNC machining inquiries or customized parts requirements, you can send your inquiry to our email address so our engineering team can discuss every production detail with you — whether you need 1 piece or more than 50 pieces, we provide the best cost-effective support. Tell us your requirements and our team will serve you. You can start a new project now.
What's The Surface Finishing Can Be Done After CNC Machining?
- After most aeroplane parts are CNC machined, we provide excellent finishes including anodizing, powder coating and more.
- Shaft House and Engine Mount Parts: After CNC turning and lathing, we perform polishing and hard anodizing to achieve an aesthetic result.
- Tube Fittings: We use a 3+2 axis CNC machining center to complete these parts, then apply a hard anodizing process to protect the surface.
