What's The Project Challenge For The Projects?
The main challenge is the product thickness is 60–90mm, and the features are heterogeneous — all parts need to be assembled and serve a functional purpose.
Our engineering team uses extended cutting tools, 5-axis and 3+2 axis CNC milling machines to complete them. When rotating at different angles, all threaded holes must be precision-machined to ensure proper assembly.
How To Understand and Make The Parts?
First, we conducted a careful design overview to understand the parts and suggest improvements when possible. Then, we applied Positive Material Identification (PMI) to test the composition of the alloys used in the tools and parts.
The first run of prototypes was CNC machined from aluminum in a 5-step process:
- 1CNC Program the Machines
- 2Engineering Review and Improve the Codes
- 3Mount the Workpiece on the Machine and Adjust the Setup
- 4Monitor Production and All Functions
- 5Adjust the Cutting Programs When Necessary
These practices are typically repeated in any CNC machining project; the cutting programs used are unique for each part. We had to consider things like machine type, part geometry, tool type, and raw material.
The prototypes were sent to our model shop and trusted partners for polishing (reflective and shiny appearance), powder coating (durable protective finish), and silver anodizing (beautiful clear finish that enhances resistance to corrosion and wear).
How To Develop and Manufacturing CNC Machining Aeroplane Parts
Most of the aeroplane parts' CNC machining includes rapid prototype and volume production. When we make 2–4 prototypes, the feature and material requirements ask us to specify the material supplier, such as 7075, 7475, 2024 and more.
Aeroplane parts require us to further consider the whole process — from single part machining, surface coating, and assembly. This is a very complex process, so our engineering team needs to make a detailed DFM report before production.

What's The Surface Finishing Can Be Done After CNC Machining?
- After most aeroplane parts are CNC machined, we provide quality finishing such as anodizing, powder coating and more.
- Shaft House and engine mount parts — after CNC turning and lathe operations, we apply polishing and hard anodizing for an aesthetic finish.
- Tube fittings — processed on a 3+2 axis CNC machining center, followed by hard anodizing to protect the surface.
